Some men think that they are really smart and claimed they are good leaders. In fact, they got so much to learn to become a good leader. Other than skills, they also must have excellent professional background and academic qualification.
Can i say that our Malaysian universities their qualities are declining if compared to other world class universities?
The only great leader I know is Rasullullah saw. Refer to book named "Go To Great" written by J. Collins, there are two chracteristics that must posses by a great leader which are:
1) Humble.
2) Passion to be professional.
All these were posed by the Prophet.
Case Study
The meeting was called without any appropriate notice. Then it was appeared as a harmful meeting. He came very rudely. Seemed was trying to influence the boss. I let him to comment on whatever on me and ‘R’. He was provoked and he tried to demoralize us especially me totally. He accused me of inefficiencies and lateness of finishing the follow-ups. The accusations have already started since he joins our insurance team. So far, he never mentioned any of his weaknesses, for example many of poor judgments. Poor thing. He thought he was 100% perfect.
I encountered his comments, “We should not find faults with members in the team, but solutions. ‘R’ and I have done everything to update the follow-ups. We have made the report properly without hiding anything. Hence we together could follow-up from there easily.”
He claimed he has done a lot of work, especially for the coming renewals of insurance coverage. His action seemed to let the boss gave more credit to him.
My further encounters: Prior he joined the team, who did all the renewals? I who did the renewals and all others without any complaints at all with a lot of patience. But all settled amicably, and on time without any obstacles. Why make the insurance works being so complicated?
He said I did not adhere instruction because I thought I was better equipped professionally and academically then him. Haah, if so, why not he further his study? Why depend only on polishing the bosses all the time?? Nowadays, additional qualifications are more demanded by the discreet employers, not merely skill. Unless the employers only want the workers who prefer to be dogs. If that happened the organization would not last long.
Conclusion
He shows his bossy attitude. Human factor not in his mind. Mechanically factor yes he does, but better organically.
TO GET THINGS DONE
We as managers can no longer depend on our IQ to get things done:
1.The Emotional Intelligence (commonly known as EQ) is the critical success factor that will ensure success in the workplace.
2.The EQ concept is basically focuses on our ability to manage ourselves and how we manage the relationship with others.
3.Getting and remaining connected with people is critical for the success of managers. Managers who are able to build and sustain commitment, trust and rapport with their employees invariably experience positive results in getting things done.
4.Our ability to relate to the needs of others and use that understanding to bring out the best from them is a critical EQ competency every manager should possess.
5.Managers need to understand their personal feelings and emotions first, before attempting to get things done through others.
Our Management Success depends on our ability to use the Emotional Intelligence (commonly known as EQ) skills in our course of work as a manager.
The Critical Stage of Bahasa Melayu
Today is March 8, 2009. A critical stage to the usage of Bahasa Melayu in Malaysia. According to pre-survey, about more than 100,000 Malaysians will march to the Istana Negara to submit memorandum not to use "PPMSI."
Yeah, I feel ashamed of when found out that 20% marks in Mathematic or Science able to pass in the UPSR and PMR examinations for the past few years. If disbelieved, we could test the students again who scored A's in Mathematic or Science whether they really deserved the A’s!
Look, some students, and also their parents startled when the students got A's in these subjects, which before they just passed in the papers during trial tests/examinations. Huh! Ironically then, the Ministry of Education would say the programs/implementations have been successful, where 'passing rates are increasing from year to year.' Please lah, we are no more naive ok? Now most of us are more educated and globally opened, in some circumstances are even more educated than some of the personnel in the Education Ministry and the Cabinet's members themselves.
Let us checking back history when the medium of English was imposed until end of 1970's at the school secondary levels. The number of Malays students at the faculties of Engineering, Economics, Medicine, Laws reached not even 10%. Only through BM than their numbers increased around 40%to 80%.
Many Malays now who are medical practitioner, legal, engineering, accounting, and dentistry were mostly educated in Bahasa Melayu during their secondary schools' days. But when they growing up, their English proficiency and fluency automatically progress through their readings and business dealings then.
Once I was the uncontested President of PTA of a government school in Ampang for two years (2006-2008). I have to discontinue the post because my children no more study there. But my 3rd child will be there in 2010 which qualify me back to hold the post if I wanted to.
In 2006, one fine morning during school assembly I gave a speech to the school citizens which has about 151 teachers mostly females and 2,100 students morning and evening sessions.
I said, "Why must we so obsess and look too high at English? The Britons in the United Kingdom are laughing at us of still bowing to their inheritance."
That means yet we are not independent in the truly sense, where and why we every year at 31st August claim/celebrate that we are already independent. If we claimed we already/really independent, sorry to say, in my personal opinion this celebration should not be remembered at all! When we remember it, we will remember that we were former subjects of the British Empire! Why should we remember that?
Now, what we must do is to be really and fully efficient in English without sacrificing the Bahasa Melayu. I agree to use English as a tool to progress and develop in certain but not all fields. As Malaysian, as stated in the Federal Constitution, preference should be given to Bahasa Melayu. A Malay proverb has said, "Hilang Bahasa Hilanglah Bangsa." Bila bahasa sudah hilang, maka hilanglah bangsa! (When the language is vanished, the race is also going to diminish soon, too!).
Remember, the Japanese, the Germans, the French, the Russians and many others use their mother tongue languages, yet able to produce better products/services than produced by the Britons themselves. Further, if we want to study there, we must be competent in their languages first, and then only can enroll at their universities/colleges.
West Malaysia North-South Highway
The management of our highways still below the standard. On March 9, 2009 I travelled from Kuala Kangsar at 3.30pm to Kuala Lumpur.
After Jelapang Toll, I and family proceeded to another toll near Gunung Tempurung. And there were 5 Kilometers queues. At that time there was drizzling along the way.
I told my wife, why not the workers just gave away the tickets outside the booths? So that the traffic could flow faster.
Why we pay something that delaying our journey? Yeah, from the Gunung Tempurung Toll to Sungai Buluh cost me RM24.90sen. Took about three and the half hours. Sometimes it is better to take the old roads, but depends on luck, too.
If to become a cabinet minister, I do not want to be the Minister of Transport. It is really a hot seat, unless I do not bother what the people will say to me, as the previous minister all the time did.
Our country is very rich in natural and artificial resources, but where most of the income gone to? The poor remains poor,some more poorer than before.
Where, who, and how are the Minister Head and other cabinet's ministers when passed tolls to be increased for the 5 highways recently?
When debating and talking in the Parliament, most backbenchers mostly talk rubbish like unregistered medicines' sellers along the streets and some seem not mentally rational, far than educated at all. No need to mention them because their faces could be seen through the TV channels especially TV3. Time will fade them away.
The rakyats are no more naive, they are becoming more informative and educated. They all judging on you, hi all the ministers and others in power. If not performed or performed immorally, they will throw you out in the coming elections.
Mini-budget of RM60 Billion To Save the Economy
RM60 billion, is it mini? Huh, from where the monies come from? Ah ha, mainly from the EPF. Yeah, our EPF dividends 2009 will be affected again. Normally will get 4% to 5% each year. What about inflation of 5% to 10% per year? Means at the end when we can withdraw all our deposits, actually we will get nothing extra but "depreciated' amount of EPF?
I remember Tun Daim had went to US in 1998 to sell the bonds of RM2 billion which already we considered as a big amount! Now RM60 billion? What happened if still insufficient to stimulate the Malaysian economy at least for the next two years?
PM in waiting looks smiling when briefed and delivered the budget on March 10, 2009. Yeah, the money or budget to be spent is not from his or any cabinet's members pockets, or his late father's monies, but monies of the citizens themselves.The government is exploiting its subjects' retiring funds, collections of the highway tolls, profits earn from petroleum consumed by the public, etc.
As naive suggestion, why not the RM60 billion is distributed to 60 selected local potential entrepreneurs to start or expand their businesses? Of which, before becoming a billionaire, then by giving them RM1 billion each, the country will be able to create at least 60 more billionaires in the country. If not, when the allocation finished we are scared if we still unable to produce even as single billionaire!
Unfortunately, our country is merely having people of only know how to spend money, not how to get money! These can be proven of how our some MPs debating in the Parliament especially by the backbenchers by using Bahasa Melayu very wildly, and if using English also not to the standard.
To select a truly Premier, we have to find someone who is highly educated, know how to use his head and farsighted. Like Nabi Yusuf a.s. (Prophet Joseph) during Pharaoh's reign, where to save during flamboyant period of 7 years and spent wisely when in depression of also seven years.
Why not we produce more local doctors through the IPTA/IPTS and budgeting more on them?Instead of producing 2,000 doctors per year why not increase them to 5,000 or 10,000 per year? Why we spend a lot on defence of which when buying the armaments/artillery gadgets we always buying the outdated ones? Is it to save cost?
Look at Japan, it spends money more on developments and less on defence. Hence, Malaysia most money spend on armaments, why not transfer some to be used more in expanding the agricultural sectors, means producing more foods for the citizens? China and India are examples of exporting food countries, why not Malaysia?
Like we are in the many wrong directions somewhere full of complications and confusions. Why? The existence of opportunists and selfish leaders are around who prefer to acquire popularity more than to defend the discreet principles.
